Quilt Plano, Plano 2016
Quilt Plano 2016 is a judged show with cash prizes. We are not a juried show – we accept all entries from guild members and non-members as long as we have space to display them. Due to our space limitations, entries may be limited to the first 300 received.
Mini Quilt Auction
A popular feature of Quilt Plano 2016 is the silent auction of mini quilts during the show. A wide variety of styles and techniques are represented, including seasonal, whimsical, and traditional. Bidding is open throughout the show and closes at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 13th.
At Quilt Plano 2016, FREE Skill Demonstrations are provided during both days of the show. Over 40 different skill sessions will be offered in 30-45 minute sessions. Skills demonstrated cover the traditional to the newest in art quilting, including various types of applique, piecing, finishing techniques, quilt photography, and the latest from the Art Quilters of Plano.
A popular recent addition to Quilt Plano is the Special Exhibits. These exhibits have included quilts and projects from some of the Guild’s many workshops, special-interest groups, and guild challenges. Our workshops are designed to teach quilters new techniques or mediums, to continue in our pursuit of the art of quilting. Special-interest groups spring up with a group of quilters sharing an interest in a specific area of emphasis.
If you participated in a workshop in the past year or in the Round Robin Mystery Quilt Challenge, please consider displaying your work in Special Exhibits. An entry form will be available soon.
Check back here in July to read about the Special Exhibits for Quilt Plano 2016.
This year there will be a Certified Quilt Appraiser available to appraise your quilt(s) at a cost of $45 per quilt. The appraiser will be available by appointment on Thursday and Friday.
To make an appointment for an appraisal, contact Valerie Salter.
Volunteering at Plano Quilt 2016
Volunteers are always needed for a variety of jobs during the week of the show. There is an opportunity for everyone, whether you like to sit, stand, or walk, talk to the public or be in the background. Shifts are available from Wednesday through Saturday.
Volunteers who work at least four hours are given free admission to one day of the show. Volunteers who work at least four hours are also given a commemorative charm. All volunteers are eligible for special door prizes.
All members of the Guild must volunteer for four hours of show-related work, either before or during the show, to gain free admittance. There is no free or reduced admission for Guild Members not working.
Contact Carol Long for information about available shifts or to sign up.
Kids’ Activities at Plano Quilt 2016
Education is the primary purpose of the Quilters Guild of Plano. That’s why we expose and inspire the next generations to the art of quilting. Plano Quilt Show 2016 provides several opportunities for this education:
- A special category in the show for Youth Quilts, made by a quilter 17 years old or younger. Entry fees for the category are waived.
- A Kids’ Activity Room which is open throughout Quilt Plano 2016, where children and their families can make a colored quilt block. The block will be included in a future quilt finished by the Guild for a local hospital, or may be taken home and finished with their parent. Instructions in red-work are also given in this area.
- A “Junior Quilter’s Activity Book” is given to any interested young visitors to the Show.
